Verity Wins IERA Award 2026 for Autonomous Indoor Drone System Deployed in 200 Warehouses

Swiss deep-tech company Verity has won the 2026 IERA Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation for its fully autonomous indoor drone system, deployed across approximately 200 warehouses and capturing 500,000 images per day for continuous inventory tracking.

Swiss deep-tech company Verity has been awarded the 2026 IERA Award for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation, presented jointly by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and the International Federation of Robotics. The award recognizes Verity’s fully autonomous indoor drone system for warehouse inventory management, currently deployed in approximately 200 warehouses worldwide.

The drones navigate warehouse aisles without GPS or human intervention, scanning barcodes and integrating inventory data directly into warehouse management systems. They operate autonomously for months at a time, requiring only two to three battery replacements per year, and return to charging stations independently after each scan cycle.

How the System Works

Each drone carries real-time autonomy functions on board – perception, motion planning, and obstacle avoidance – enabling decisions during flight rather than relying on central computation. As the drones move through aisles, they capture barcode data that is matched against expected inventory records, with discrepancies identified and reported automatically.

Across deployed fleets, the drones collectively capture approximately 500,000 images per day. This continuous stream of real-world operational data feeds back into a centralized cloud-based platform that trains and refines the system over time. The volume and consistency of data capture at this scale is not achievable through manual inventory processes, which are also constrained by the high labor turnover and tight cost margins characteristic of logistics and retail operations.

A key commercial benefit cited by Verity is the location of lost items – misplaced fully loaded pallets that would otherwise be written off. In large distribution centers where inventory is distributed across thousands of storage locations and moved throughout the day, a pallet misrouted to the wrong position can represent significant write-off cost that continuous drone scanning can prevent.

Jury Assessment

“With its aerial robotics technology, Verity has managed to develop a mature product that has been successfully launched to support its customers,” said Jim Ostrowski, IERA Award Committee Chair. “The jury was impressed by Verity’s significant patent portfolio, their robust business plan, and their pioneering role in bringing innovative technology to market.”

Two finalists were also recognized. Open Navigation LLC presented Nav2, described as the world’s most widely deployed autonomous mobile robot navigation solution, offered as open-source components. Innok Robotics presented the INDUROS system, an industrial mobile robot designed for brownfield intralogistics that operates across indoor halls, outdoor yards, and uneven terrain.

Looking Ahead

The International Federation of Robotics also announced the IFR Global Robotics Award, a new recognition program launching in 2027 that will honor robotics innovations bridging research and real-world deployment, open to manufacturers, system integrators, and component suppliers globally. The call for applications opens in November 2026.

Verity’s IERA win reflects a broader validation of autonomous aerial systems as a commercially mature category in warehouse automation – distinct from the ground-based mobile robot and humanoid segments that have dominated robotics investment headlines in 2026, but addressing the same underlying demand for labor-independent inventory accuracy at scale.
