Samsung SDS Tests Walden Robotics and RoboForce at Samsung Manufacturing Sites in RX Business Expansion

Samsung SDS hosted its RX ART 2026 event in Mountain View, California over two days from August 31 to September 1, presenting technology validation results from physical AI pilots conducted at multiple Samsung affiliate manufacturing sites in partnership with global robotics companies including Walden Robotics and RoboForce. The event marks Samsung SDS’s most detailed public disclosure of its robot transformation – or RX – business to date, moving beyond partnership announcements to share on-site deployment outcomes.

What Was Tested and Where

At manufacturing sites operated by Samsung Electro-Mechanics and SEMES, Samsung SDS deployed Walden Robotics’ general-purpose robots to perform manual tasks including parts handling and replacement of consumable components. The deployment verified that Walden’s technology could be applied on actual factory floors under production conditions – a distinction from controlled lab demonstrations.

For work in unstructured outdoor environments at Samsung Heavy Industries shipbuilding sites and Samsung E&A plant operations, Samsung SDS applied RoboForce’s robotic labor technology, confirming automation potential in the rugged, variable-terrain conditions that standard factory robots are not designed for. At Samsung Display, where manufacturing and equipment environments require precision manipulation, Samsung SDS incorporated AI technology from a robotics startup it identified only as Company G, demonstrating automation potential for high-precision tasks.

The RX Business Strategy

Samsung SDS is building its RX business as a system integration and deployment layer connecting global physical AI robotics companies with Samsung’s affiliate manufacturing network. The approach mirrors the system integrator model that companies like LG CNS, Genesis AI’s partnership with LG CNS, and Accenture’s robotics practice have pursued – where the integrator’s value lies in connecting external robot technology to specific enterprise operational environments rather than developing robots independently.

Ahn Dae-jung, executive vice president and head of the Digital Factory business at Samsung SDS, described the event as an opportunity for Samsung affiliates with different manufacturing environments to experience physical AI technology together and share deployment concerns. “Samsung SDS will continue to expand strategic cooperation with global physical AI robotics companies and actively support Samsung affiliates in pursuing manufacturing RX,” he said.

The Broader Samsung Robotics Context

Samsung SDS’s RX expansion sits within a broader Samsung Group robotics push that includes the establishment of an RX Business Office reporting directly to Samsung Electronics CEO TM Roh, the reported development of an in-house humanoid robot at an advanced stage, the formation of a new Robotics Strategy Team led by former Hyundai executive Lee Dong-geon, and Samsung’s existing investment in Rainbow Robotics. The SDS pilot results provide the practical deployment validation that the Samsung Group’s humanoid and manufacturing robot programs will eventually need to scale across its global production infrastructure.
