UBTECH revealed full pricing for its U1 companion humanoid robot at a Shenzhen launch event on Monday under the UWORLD consumer brand, as orders for the robot crossed 10,000 units and shares of UBTECH jumped 17% on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange during the day. Delivery in China is scheduled for mid-September 2026.
The U1 comes in male and female versions with distinct physical profiles. The male model stands 183 centimeters and weighs 42 kilograms. The female model is 168 centimeters and 35.2 kilograms. Both feature 88 joints for human-like movement. The launch event, themed “Love Is Eternal”, showcased the robots performing eye blinking, head rotations, and dance sequences on stage.
The Pricing Tiers
UBTECH structured the U1 into three commercial tiers. The U1 Lite, a torso-only model without lower-body mobility, starts at 119,800 yuan – approximately €15,000. The U1 Pro, the standard full-body model, is priced at 169,800 yuan, approximately €21,500. The premium Ultra versions carry significantly higher prices: 880,000 yuan for the female configuration and 990,000 yuan for the male, equivalent to approximately €111,000 and €125,000 respectively. The pricing announcement surprised many attendees at the event, given that pre-orders had opened on June 2nd on JD.com with a 380 euro deposit before any price had been disclosed.
Technology and AI Architecture
The U1 runs on a Rockchip RK3588 chip with an emotional AI model trained using the Huawei Ascend framework. UBTECH describes the AI as a “养成系” system – an adaptive model that learns and evolves through ongoing interaction with its owner, building a persistent relationship profile over time. The female version offers a customizable appearance including makeup options. Interaction data is encrypted and processed locally rather than transmitted to external servers, according to UBTECH’s specifications.
Commercial Momentum and Operational Reality
UBTECH founder Zhou Jian announced at the event that U1 orders had crossed 10,000 units – ten times the company’s total full-size humanoid robot sales volume for all of 2025. The figure aligns with pre-order numbers disclosed earlier this month. However, journalists present at the Shenzhen event noted that facial expressions still appear mechanical in execution and that conversational response showed latency – a gap between the polished promotional presentation and the current hardware and software performance that the company will need to close before the September delivery date.
UBTECH’s interest in the consumer companion market reflects the financial pressures on its industrial business. The company reported net losses of 703 million yuan in 2025, narrowing from 1.12 billion yuan in 2024, with ongoing cash outflows and a significant accounts receivable balance concentrated in government customers. The U1 consumer launch represents a deliberate strategy to diversify revenue into a market where payment timelines are faster and volume potential is significantly larger than enterprise procurement.
Whether the U1’s AI companion capabilities will meet consumer expectations at the stated price points – and particularly at the Pro level where competition from other companion robot products will be direct – will be determined by the quality of the mid-September deliveries.
