U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has finalized a $1.3 million contract for four Boston Dynamics Spot robots to inspect border tunnels and hazardous environments, Boston.com reported. The purchase covers remotely operated quadrupeds and accessories.

Boston Dynamics says the robots are intended for Homeland Security Investigations, rather than ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. The company told the publication they would not support immigrant detentions or deportations, and that its terms prohibit weaponization, harm and intimidation.

The reported configuration includes a RADeCO CBRNe kit for detecting chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive hazards. The procurement listing cited by Boston.com covers capabilities including remote observation and hazard assessment.

RADeCO’s Cerberus platform pairs a customized Spot with detection equipment, cameras and communications systems. Boston Dynamics separately describes public safety uses that send Spot into dangerous locations ahead of personnel. Those descriptions explain the technology’s intended role; they do not independently confirm how ICE will deploy the purchased units.

RobotsBeat’s earlier coverage addressed a proposal for spending up to $2 million. The reported $1.3 million contract is a subsequent procurement milestone, not evidence that deployment has begun. Boston Dynamics said misuse could lead to revoked licenses, withheld updates and legal action.
