Key Notes
- Kraken Robotics announced C$102 million in product orders received since August 27, bringing the combined group’s announced 2026 total to approximately C$457 million.
- The new bookings include C$25 million for subsea batteries and C$22 million for sonar, alongside more than C$55 million across Covelya businesses.
- Orders are not recognised revenue, and management expects the vast majority of recent bookings to convert within twelve months.
Kraken Robotics has announced C$102 million in new product orders, including subsea batteries and sonar for uncrewed underwater vehicles, as demand broadens across defence and offshore energy. The November 5 update brings announced 2026 orders for Kraken and the acquired Covelya Group to approximately C$457 million.
The company announcement covers orders received since its August 27 update, not a single contract signed on November 5. More than 60% of the combined group’s announced orders this year came from defence customers. The figures are in Canadian dollars.
Batteries and Sonar Lead the Robotics Connection
The latest total includes C$25 million in subsea-battery orders for defence UUV customers and C$22 million in synthetic-aperture sonar orders. Kraken says the latter includes its largest individual SAS order, from an unnamed navy, for integration into man-portable underwater vehicles.
More than C$55 million came through Covelya businesses serving offshore oil and gas and defence. These are product bookings, not a disclosure of the same amount in recognised revenue. Management expects the vast majority of recent orders to convert to revenue within twelve months.
Power Systems Help Determine Underwater Endurance
Kraken’s SeaPower batteries use pressure-tolerant encapsulation and an integrated battery-management system. The company markets modular configurations for different sizes of underwater vehicle, where available energy affects mission duration and the room left for other payloads.
The engineering challenge differs from surface robotics: a battery system has to operate within the vehicle’s depth, volume and safety requirements. Manufacturer performance claims still need to be matched to a particular configuration and mission. An order announcement does not establish one universal endurance figure for every UUV using the technology.
Sonar Gives Underwater Robots a Working View
The SAS product range supports imaging and bathymetric mapping, with applications in seabed surveys, infrastructure inspection and mine countermeasures. Kraken offers configurations for vehicles ranging from small man-portable systems to larger platforms.
This is a component-level robotics story as much as a vehicle story. Sensors and power systems determine what an underwater platform can observe and how long it can operate, even when the complete robot is built by a different manufacturer. The release does not identify the navy customer or provide its delivery schedule.
Orders Are the Start of the Delivery Test
RobotsBeat’s report on the Greenland robot expedition shows a scientific use of marine robots, while our ANYmal X coverage follows inspection machines in hazardous industrial settings. These are separate projects, but each depends on equipment suited to a demanding environment.
For Kraken, the next commercial test is turning bookings into delivered products and revenue while integrating Covelya. The company plans to report Q3 results on November 24. That update should provide a clearer financial checkpoint than treating the newly announced order total as money already earned.
