Ricoh USA has partnered with Hyphen to help deploy and support robotic food-preparation systems across the United States. The October 15 agreement brings Ricoh’s Service Advantage lifecycle-management network to Hyphen’s restaurant automation business.
The partnership covers Hyphen’s Automated Makeline, which receives orders from online, kiosk and digital drive-through channels. It assembles rice and salad bowls beneath the counter while employees continue serving walk-in customers above it.
Hyphen’s CulinaryOS coordinates recipes and digital orders. Ricoh’s contribution centers on implementation and ongoing support, addressing the practical challenge of maintaining equipment as restaurant operators expand from individual installations to multiple locations.
The companies identify Chipotle and Cava as backers of the makeline technology. Their announcement does not specify a new chain-wide purchase, the number of restaurants covered or a timetable for completing a national rollout. Those details will determine the scale of the service partnership.
The arrangement adds food preparation to a wider restaurant automation push that includes robot deliveries. The workflows differ, but both require more than a working machine: operators need installation, recovery procedures and service support that keeps pace with daily demand.
