XPeng Plans 2027 Robot Deliveries and Overseas Robotaxi Trials

XPeng president Brian Gu says overseas robotaxi trials and commercial robot deliveries are planned for 2027 as the EV maker expands into physical AI.

XPeng plans to begin overseas robotaxi trials and commercial robot deliveries in 2027 as it expands beyond electric vehicles into humanoids, autonomous transport and flying cars. Vice chairman and president Brian Gu outlined the strategy in a CNA interview published October 9, speaking with Julie Yoo at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore.

The timeline follows XPeng’s September commissioning of production lines for its IRON humanoid. The company said it aims to enter mass production by the end of 2026, initially deploying robots in its own stores and campuses before market launches and deliveries in China and overseas in 2027.

XPeng positions IRON as part of a shared physical AI technology base spanning vehicles and robots. The latest platform uses three Turing AI chips with a claimed effective computing capacity of up to 2,250 TOPS. Initial commercial roles include guided tours, shopping assistance and accompanying patrols, according to its newsroom.

Its robotaxi program has a separate commercialization path. In a May update, XPeng said it planned pilot operations in the second half of 2026 and targeted fully autonomous operation without an on-site safety officer by early 2027. Those targets concern planned services; the rollout of a production vehicle does not itself establish an operating driverless fleet.

RobotsBeat previously covered XPeng’s humanoid factory and its proposed global rollout. Gu’s comments reinforce the company’s push to turn automotive AI and manufacturing capabilities into new businesses, while commercial deliveries, overseas trials and sustained customer use remain the milestones to watch.
